V103 Radio Mixes
January 04, 2012 08:05 PM PST
This episode features two 25-minute mini-mixes that I put together for V103 FM in Chicago to promote the Chosen Few DJs and the Hot Mix 5 "Mayhem" New Year's Eve party at Navy PIer. These mixes aired on V103 on December 30, 2011. Enjoy! AK "Praise" (November 2011)
November 18, 2011 10:02 PM PST
One of my most popular mixes, and one of my personal favorites, is a gospel house mix called "The Revival" that I recorded back in 2003. A lot of folks have asked me over the years to do another gospel house mix. So "hear" it is: "Praise" recorded this week before Thanksgiving, 2011. I hope you get some inspiration from it or at least enjoy the tunes! AK "Underground Mix" (June 2002)
November 04, 2011 10:12 PM PDT
I heard a song tonight that made me recall this mix I had done back in June of 2002, which then reminded me of a great night playing at "Le Passage" (RIP) in July 2002 with my Chosen Few brothers and friend Craig Loftis. So, I dug out the mix as well as this photo of Andre Hatchett and me in the booth that night at Le Passage. Good memories around this mix and that night. I hope you enjoy the mix! AK "Late Night Sessions" (September 2011)
September 13, 2011 08:39 PM PDT
Another in the "Late Night Sessions" series. These are always fun to record because I never know exactly where I'm going to go with it. New music? Classics? Who knows? AK "AK's Summer Groove" (August 2011)
August 07, 2011 11:14 AM PDT
Just finished this one. A little hot summer groove, featuring some new tunes I'm really feeling right now, sprinkled of course with some classic flavor. I think this one may become one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it! AK "New Skool" (June 2006)
July 24, 2011 12:26 AM PDT
Just stumbled across this one tonight...and it still sounded pretty fresh. I have so many of these damn mixes I forget about them! This one is all "new music" recorded 5 years ago. Not so new anymore, but I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did rediscovering it. AK "Late Night Sessions" (June 2011)
June 25, 2011 08:31 AM PDT
Been so busy getting ready for the 2011 Chosen Few Picnic I haven't had much time in the lab lately. But I was able to fit in one recent "Late Night Session." Hope you enjoy it. AK "Classic AK" (February 2006)
June 09, 2011 09:03 PM PDT
Someone asked me recently if I'd add this one to my Podcast. Honestly, I had forgotten all about it and enjoyed listening to it again. I hope you do, too. One of the things that I hope defines me as a DJ is the use of both newer music and classic sounds--often including them together in the same mix. So here's a little "Classic AK" from February 2006. "Deep Disco?" (December 2004)
May 05, 2011 08:35 PM PDT
I love the new music, but once in a while you gotta show the kids that you can still go there...down, dirty and deep! This was one of those sessions from December 2004. Some rare gems and favorites. Enjoy! AK "The Return" (March 2011)
March 18, 2011 10:59 PM PDT
First time back in the home studio in six weeks. Man, I really love this stuff! Get up, 'cause it's party time! AK "Party Mix" (August 2005)
January 30, 2011 12:18 AM PST
I was asked recently how I come up with the names of my mixes? I usually have no particular name in mind when I start recording, but at some point during the session a name will often come to me, based on the songs played, the flow of the mix or just my mood at the time. Here's one from my archives, recorded in August 2005, that's a personal favorite. I called this one "Party Mix" because...well, you'll see. Enjoy the party! AK "Classic Groove Mix" (November 2000)
December 12, 2010 08:48 AM PST
Thought I'd share one from the vaults, recorded 10 years ago. All vinyl...those were the days. Enjoy! AK "Late Night Sessions" (November 2010)
November 20, 2010 11:31 AM PST
Had a heavy heart of late...something I'll talk about down the road. Don't know where I'd be without my music to pour it into. Another one of my "Late Night Sessions" last night. I hope you feel me on this one. AK "1984-Part I" (Circa 1984)
October 23, 2010 10:00 AM PDT
I was reminded that when I started my Podcast I promised some "rare and exclusive mixes from Alan spanning more than 25 years." Fortunately, I managed to save several mixes from the early to mid 1980s, all roughly 45 minutes in length--long live the cassette tape! Here's a mix I recorded in 1984. Great memories, great music. Go back with me now to the south side of Chicago in 1984! "Life!" (August 2010)
August 26, 2010 07:51 PM PDT
I'm back with a new episode inspired by that glorious, wonderful ride that is Life! I've been reflecting a lot lately on how truly fortunate and blessed I have been, in so many ways, and it moved me to record this mix--a little musical celebration of life. I really hope you guys enjoy this one!

Podcast SummaryWelcome to the Podcast of DJ Alan King! Alan is one of Chicago’s original house music DJs and a member of the legendary DJ crew “The Chosen Few” (Wayne Williams, Alan King, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Andre Hatchett and Terry Hunter). In a 2007 interview discussing his return to Chicago, Grammy Award winning DJ and producer Frankie Kunckles observed: "One of the best things about returning to Chicago is catching up with some of the home-grown talent. I like to hear the spin that some of them put on house music - that's what sparks me. The brilliant Andre Hatchett is the perfect example. He is one of two guys in Chicago who have the biggest impact on me. The other is Alan King. They are the truest to the house music form, yet there is soul, personality and individuality in what they're doing. They're the real thing." In the late '70s and early '80s, the Chosen Few DJs were among the DJs primarily responsible for spreading the soulful brand of dance music that came to be known as "House Music" at legendary Chicago night spots, including The Loft, First Impressions, Sauer's and the Playground. Still together more than 30 years later and with the addition of their youngest member, legendary DJ and producer Terry Hunter, the Chicago DJs make regular DJ appearances in Chicago, New York and around the world and bring you the annual Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic every July in Chicago, one of the largest house music festival events in the world. Started in 1990 as a "reunion" of the Chosen Few DJs and friends from the early house music days, the Chosen Few Picnic now attracts tens of thousands of house music lovers from throughout the United States and around the world. With Alan's Podcast, you'll hear the latest, rare and exclusive mixes from Alan spanning more than 25 years, featuring Alan's unique presentation of the latest in soulful house music as well as disco and house classics.
